The biggest grass court tennis tournament in the world is back, with 1st round matches starting today. Here are some things to look out for at this year’s championships:
- Will Novak Djokovic be able to regain his 2021 title?
- Will Rafael Nadal claim another record and make it 23 slam wins?
- How will Serena Williams fare on her Wimbledon comeback?
- Will Iga Swiatek continue her dominance on the women’s tour by winning the title?
Here are some of LagateRaho.com’s top picks for the first round:
- Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Lukas Rosol

Lukas Rosol enjoyed a good run in qualifying for the main draw by winning his three matches without dropping a single set. Nikoloz Basilashvili has had an up and down start to his grass season, picking up a big win against Andre Rublev in Halle, but losing out to Mats Rosenkranz in straight sets in Mallorca.
We expect a win for the Georgian, but we think the big-serving Rosol will be good enough for at least a set.
Back Rosol to win a set @1.50
- Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Hubert Hurkacz

The Pole Hubert Hurkacz has been in the form of his life in the lead-up to the 2022 Wimbledon championships winning the Halle title by beating world #1 Daniil Medvedev in the final, that too convincingly. The Spaniard Davidovich Fokina has gone 2-2 in this year’s grass season and will need to up his game to get anything from today’s match.
The pair have a 2-2 H2H record with Hurkacz taking the last two matches, albeit after dropping a set in both matchups. This is their first meeting on grass courts.
Back Davidovich Fokina to win a set @1.83
- Casper Ruud vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas

The Norwegian Ruud has climbed to new heights in the ATP rankings to #6 after his stellar runner-up run at Roland Garros this year. His only match on grass this year ended in disappointment after defeat to Ryan Peniston in straight sets. The wiley Spainyard Ramos-Vinolas hs a 4-1 H2H record vs Ruud and we expect him to take a set and make it tough for the Norwegian #1.
Back Ramos-Vinolas to win a set @ 1.72
- Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka

The 20 year old Italian’s lack of match practice and nagging fitness problems give the experienced Swiss maestro Wawrinka the chance of picking up a set or more in this matchup.
Back Wawrinka to win a set @1.44
Will there be any massive upsets in the first round of Wimbledon 2022?
