Where’s The Smart Money Going on Day 9 of Indian Wells Masters Tennis?

Day 8 proved to be one of shocks and surprises with world number 2 and top seed Medvedev crashing out to Grigor Dimitrov, Jannik Sinner losing out to Taylor Fritz, Karen Khachanov succumbing to Nikoloz Basilashvili and Jessica Pegula losing to Victoria Azarenka.

Considering players’ current form, previous history and the prevailing Californian conditions, here are LagateRaho.com’s picks for day 9:

Cameron Norrie vs Diego Schwartzman

With both players in good form, we’re digging into their H2H history. Norrie leads the H2H against Schwartzman 2-1, having won their last two meetings and has never lost in straight sets to the Argentine. We expect the trend to continue.

Back Grigor Dimitrov to win a set vs Hubert Hurkacz

Grigor Dimitrov pulled off an unbelievable comeback against top-seed Daniil Medvedev. At one point he was down a set and 4-1, but rallied to win eight straight games to take the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. The Pole Hurkacz is in top form and will give his all in his fight for a place at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. We think the Pole might be good for the win, but we expect a fight from the resurgent Bulgarian. We are backing Dimitrov to win a set in this clash.

Ons Jabeur vs Anett Kontaveit

The hard hitting Tunisian Jabeur leads the H2H with Kontaveit 2-1. Their most recent clash came this year at Cincinnati where Jabeur had to battle for over two hours to edge it 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Recent form slightly favours Kontaveit who has been unplayable at times winning in straight sets 9 out of the last 10 outings. We wouldn’t be comfortable calling a winner in this one and  will back Jabeur to win a set in this battle.
